Hampton Bays has a real mix of houses. Along Shinnecock Bay and Tiana Bay you find waterfront homes, and inland the streets wind through pine and oak woods. Plenty of the older houses began as summer cottages or small ranches and have been added onto over the years. Newer builds and full renovations sit right beside them, sometimes on the same block. Some are lived in all year, and some sit empty for months between visits.

Each kind of house gets dirty in its own way. An older cottage has wood floors and small closets, and dust and damp collect in corners a quick wipe misses. A renovated house has a different problem. Fine drywall dust settles on every ledge and on top of the light fixtures, and it keeps drifting down for days after the builders leave. Post construction cleaning is one of our specialties, and that dust is most of the job.

So we walk the house first and ask what matters most to you. On an older cottage that usually means extra time on floors and baseboards. After a renovation we work top down, light fixtures first and floors last, so dust never settles on a clean surface. Salt air reaches every Hampton Bays house

This town sits between Shinnecock Bay to the south and Peconic Bay to the north, so the wind carries salt in from both sides. It dries on windows and glass doors as a thin, sticky film. That film holds dust and turns the glass cloudy. On a bayfront house the windows facing the water get the heaviest coat. Wiping it with a dry cloth just smears it around, so the glass gets washed first.

Sand is the other thing summer brings inside. It comes in on shoes and towels, then packs into slider tracks and the fibers of rugs. Left there, it grinds at wood floors every time someone walks across them, and it jams sliding doors so they drag. A house near Ponquogue Beach or Tiana Beach can collect a surprising amount of it over one summer weekend.

Summer air here is humid, and a house that stays shut all week traps it. Bathrooms and closets start to smell musty, and gray mildew shows up on grout and caulk. A house closed from fall to spring is worse, since nobody opens a window for months. Spring cleaning on a house like that starts in the bathrooms and closets, where the damp did the most. Then we work through every room before you move back in.

We clean Hampton Bays rentals between guests

Summer is rental season here, and a lot of houses in town are rented by the week or the month. The gap between one checkout and the next check-in can be a few hours. In that window we strip and remake the beds, then clear the last group's food out of the kitchen. The next family should walk into a house that looks like nobody was there.

Owners who rent often live somewhere else, so they need a crew that works without being watched. Gilda Turano uses us for her short term rental. "I trust them to take care of everything in my absence," she wrote. We can also stock the kitchen and run errands before guests arrive. Both are services on our Google listing. July and August weekends bring house guests and parties. After a big weekend the kitchen and the floors take the worst of it. "I called on short notice needing a deep clean after having guests, and the crew showed up ready to go," wrote Thomas Fallen.
